Australians In IPL: The IPL is the first kind of event where money got involved in cricket. This cash-rich league tournament has also been a platform for youngsters to showcase their talents in front of millions of people around the world.

The Indian Premier League is not only for Indian players but overseas players also play an important role.

The ten-team tournament has players, coaches and staff from different countries. The Australian cricket players have done well in this event like the players from other overseas countries.

The Aussies always have a never say attitude and they have transformed that saying in this cash-rich league tournament as well.

In the history of the Indian Premier League, there have been only three captains from Australia who won the IPL title when they were the leaders of their franchise teams.

Steve Smith would have been the fourth Aussie player to win an IPL Trophy as a captain. But his team Raising Pune Supergiants lost to Mumbai Indians by just one run in the finals of the IPL 2017 season.

Today's topic is about identifying the three Australian players who have led their IPL teams to victory and won an IPL trophy as captain.

The Rajasthan Royals side (RR) were the champions of the first-ever season of the Indian Premier League in 2008 and that win had come under the mentorship and leadership of the greatest player from Australia, the Late Shane Warne.

The Double R’s defeated the Yellow Army, CSK, in the finals and they were crowned as the champions at that time.

The Royals are still searching for their second title since then and they made it to the finals last year in the TATA IPL 2022 season after 14 long years.

Now Sanju Samson leads this franchise team and they were defeated by the new team of the 2022 edition Gujarat Titans last year, which is captained by Hardik Pandya.

2. Adam Gilchrist

The most explosive wicketkeeper batter of all time Adam Gilchrist is the second player from Australia to win an IPL title in the history of this tournament.

Gilly was the skipper of the Deccan Chargers (DC) side and the current skipper of the Mumbai Indians side, Rohit Sharma was also in their squad.

The Chargers defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2009 finals of the IPL. The RCB side was led by Anil Kumble.

Gilly was the captain of the Kings XI Punjab side as well from 2011 to 2013. But he couldn’t repeat the heroics which he did for the Deccan Chargers side.

3. David Warner

The last player from Australia to win an IPL title as a captain is David Warner. The dashing opening batter was the skipper who led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to glory in the IPL season of 2016.

This season also saw Virat Kohli amass 973 runs, the most in a single season and Kohli also smashed four IPL centuries.

That record has been equalled by Jos Buttler last year for the Rajasthan Royals.

Warner won the finals of that season when the SRH side defeated Virat and his men from the RCB side in that game.

Now David Warner is the leader of the Delhi Capitals side. The Capitals have lost five games in a row. However, they earned two crucial points on board when they won their first game of the TATA IPL 2023 season against Kolkata Knight Riders yesterday, 20th April 2023.

Warner should aim to be the first Australian player to win two IPL trophies as a captain. No player from Australia has achieved this feat in the tournament yet. David has come in the place of Rishabh Pant as the captain of the DC (Delhi Capitals) team.
