AUS Vs SA 2nd Test Match: The Aussies are way ahead in the match against South Africa. The second Test match between Australia and The Proteas is being played at the iconic ground, Melbourne Cricket Ground which is also known as MCG.
On the eve of the Boxing Day Test match, Warner smashed a double hundred in his 100th Test encounter.
Earlier on the first day, Cameron Green took his maiden five-wicket haul in the red ball matches which helped Australia to bundle out the South Africans to just 189 runs in 68.4 overs.
In response to that low total scored by the visitors, Proteas, Australia had kept their noses ahead. They have piled on 386 runs for the loss of just three wickets and the lead is 197 runs.
The dashing opener of the Aussies team, David Warner has scored a century in his 100th Test match for Australia.
Warner’s 25th Test Ton was the highlight of the second day’s play because not many have achieved the feat of scoring a ton in their 100th Test matches played for their country. David Warner is just the tenth batter to do so.
As the innings progressed, David Warner hit a double century in his hundred Test encounter. Only Joe Edward Root has a record of scoring a double ton in his 100th Test match. David Warner is just the second batter to achieve this huge milestone in his red ball format career.
The Aussie opener scored the third double hundred of his Test match career today against The Proteas.
Joe Edward Root is the first player to score a double ton in his 100th Test match. He achieved this feat last year when England toured India.
Root was also the captain of the side when he achieved this spectacular feat in the red ball format. Root scored 218 runs in the 1st innings and he was also the top scorer in the second innings with 40 runs allowing England to win that Test match by 227 runs.
In this ongoing second Test match, David Warner retired hurt after he reached the milestone of scoring 200 runs in his 100th Test match.
Still, Australia is in a commanding position and they can win this Test match and the three-match series. The Aussies are already leading the red ball series by a margin of 1-0 as they won the opening Test match within two days at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Steve Smith, the former captain of the Australian team and the current vice-captain also played well with David Warner. Smith scored 85 runs in the first innings of the second Test match.
Cameron Green has also retired hurt while Travis Head and Alex Carey are the overnight batters of this Test match. Head is unbeaten on 48 runs and the keeper batter, Carey is not out on nine runs.
The Proteas bowlers didn’t have a great day with the ball as well. They had picked up the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja early. But David Warner had stolen the show from them.
South Africa needs to strike back early as possible otherwise The Aussie are the favourites to run away with this match and the three-match red ball format series.
