According to a Twitter account that has leaked build numbers for many iOS releases up to a week before they were published, Apple will likely release iOS 16.5 to the public next week. 

In a tweet posted today, the account disclosed that the forthcoming iOS 16.5 Release Candidate for developers will carry the build number 20F65.

Since late March, beta testing for iOS 16.5, which appears to be a minor software upgrade, has been ongoing. 

This version is expected to arrive before the launch of iOS 17 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

Modifications to be expected next week

This update is scheduled to arrive before the release of iOS 17 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.

So far, only two notable iPhone improvements and modifications have been discovered: a Sports option in the Apple News app and the ability to begin a screen recording with Siri.

On iOS 16.5, Apple has added a Sports tab to the News app, allowing you to easily access news, scores, and schedules for your favourite teams and leagues. 

This information was previously available in the Today tab, but it is now prominently displayed as Apple continues to invest more in sports content across its services.

The option to ask Siri to start a screen recording is a modest but useful feature included with iOS 16.5. 

To capture a video of your iPhone's screen, say "Hey Siri, start a screen recording," and then ask Siri to stop the recording when finished. 

After enabling the feature in Settings Control Centre, you can still start a screen recording via Control Centre.

First batch of rapid security is available

Meanwhile, Apple has made publicly available its first batch of "rapid security" patches, which are expressly meant to address security flaws that are now being actively exploited or pose a major danger to consumers' safety and privacy.

According to Apple, "Rapid Security Responses" offer noteworthy security enhancements in the period between software updates.
