IIT-Bombay Cancels Face-to-Face Lectures for the Entire Year
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has canceled face-to-face lectures for the entire year, amidst the fast-growing coronavirus cases in the country and now these lectures will be online. IIT Bombay has become the first major educational institution in India to do so. IIT Bombay director Professor Subhashish Chaudhary informed about this by writing a post on Facebook on Wednesday night. He said that 'after much deliberation, this decision has been taken given the safety and interest of the students'. He wrote in
the post, 'Students are a priority for IIT Bombay. In such a situation, with the end of this session, we have taken the first such step in India for the convenience of students.'
NEXT SEMESTER WILL BE COMPLETELY ONLINE
He further said, 'But looking at the recent state of the epidemic, we thought that how can we help the students in the next semester? Again, after a lot of deliberation, we have decided in the Senate that the next semester will be completely online so that there is no compromise on the safety of students.
In this post, he also sought help for students coming from economically weaker families. In the appeal of donation, he said, 'A large section of the students come from economically weaker families and they will need help in setting up IT hardware for online classes. We estimate that we will need 5 crore rupees to help the needy students and we appreciate your help for these talented students.'
TOTAL CASES IN MAHARASHTRA IS ABOVE 1.39 LAKH
Let us tell you that till Thursday morning of June 25 in India, the total positive cases of corona have been 4,73,105 and so far 2,71,697 people have recovered from this, while 14,894 people have died. Maharashtra has the highest number of corona cases in the country. The total number of positive cases here is above 1.39 lakh, while in Mumbai alone the number of corona cases is increasing above 70,000.
