The Modi government is gearing up to offer significant gifts to rail passengers this year. The railways are preparing for 4 major gifts that will provide world-class facilities to travellers.
This initiative by the railways will benefit all passengers, from those travelling in general class to those in First AC.
The railways has started operating the sleeper train Amrit Bharat under the Vande Bharat initiative. Currently, Amrit Bharat trains are running from Darbhanga to Delhi via Ayodhya, and another from Malda Town to Bengaluru.
The railways is planning to extend the Amrit Bharat service to more routes soon. These trains offer facilities comparable to those found on luxury trains.
The railways has begun the redevelopment of 500 stations across the country. Stations from 27 states and Union territories are included in the redevelopment plan.
These stations will be equipped with facilities such as roof plazas, children's play areas, kiosks, elevators, waiting rooms, and food courts. The design of these stations is being created with an eye on Indian heritage
The Indian Railways is constructing the world's tallest railway bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, known as the Chenab Bridge. The bridge's construction is in its final stages and is expected to open this year.
Once operational, people can travel by train among the clouds. The bridge over the Chenab River is built at a height of 359 meters above the riverbed, making it 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
The Vande Bharat Metro is also ready and its trials will begin soon. This train will operate between cities within a distance of 100 to 200 kilometres in major urban areas. The railways are rapidly progressing in this direction
