Changes Made by Modi Government in Army: Many states in the country are opposing the army's new recruitment strategy, called "Agnipath". The young have taken to the streets to protest the central government's plan.
Railways and other government properties are being harmed by them. This new government plan is being viewed as a significant reform in the army, but it is not the first that the Modi government has implemented for the army.
Narendra Modi has been in power at the Centre for eight years, and during this period, his government has taken numerous moves to replace the army.
In the previous eight years, the Modi government has made five key modifications to the army. These are the changes that are seen as necessary for the army's repair.
When the Modi government took power, the first change made in the army was to implement One Rank, One Pension. On November 7th, 2015, the One Rank One Pension notification was released.
This government scheme was created to provide uniform pensions to troops of the same rank who retired at different times. From July 1, 2014, One Rank, One Pension was implemented.
The government's plan has benefited more than 20 lakh ex-servicemen.
In his second term, the Modi government appointed the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). CDS was made the Chief of the Department of Military for coordination between the three forces.
Following that, on December 24, 2019, this position was created. General Bipin Rawat was named the country's first CDS. In December of last year, he died in a plane crash.
On 9 August 2020, the Modi government banned the purchase of more than 100 products in military goods from abroad. This was done to promote indigenous goods under self-sufficient India.
The country's first Integrated Theater Command is expected to begin operations on August 15, 2022. By combining the three services under one roof, the government is creating new theatre commands to improve collaboration.
The Agnipath Initiative is a new government scheme for the army. Agniveers will be enlisted in the army for four years under this programme.
However, depending on the performance of the Agniveers, 25% of the Agniveers may be retained. That is, even after four years, their job will be in the army. This is being viewed as a significant shift in the army.
On June 14, the government unveiled the Agnipath scheme, which replaces the existing mechanism of recruiting soldiers into the armed forces. The age limit for Agniveers has been fixed from 17.5 years to 23 years.
Actually, there were no recruitments for the last two years and the results of some were pending. Meanwhile, the government has started the Agnipath scheme and decided to cover all the old recruitments under this new scheme.
This decision of the government caused deep disappointment to the youth whose age limit has now ended or is nearing completion. Most of the students were waiting for the result of the old recruitments.
This is the reason why they are opposing this new plan of the government.
Most of the soldiers go from Bihar, after that from Rajasthan, the maximum opposition is also happening here only.
