I will not Give Up Until I Win a Gold Medal in the Olympics: Mary Kom

Akash Singh

World champion boxer Mary Kom said on Wednesday that it is her dream to win a medal for the country at the Olympics. She will die only after fulfilling her dream. Until she is able to achieve this goal, she will keep boxing to give her best.

The 2012 Olympics in London included women's boxing for the first time. Mary Kom won a bronze medal for India in the 51kg category. After this, she did not qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Mary, the world's most combative female boxer, put her full thrust to 2020 (now to be held in 2021) and also won an Olympic ticket.

In the Asia Oceania Boxing Olympic qualifier held in Jordan last month itself, Mary won a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics on the back of a brilliant game. This year's Tokyo Olympics was postponed by a year due to the threat of coronavirus.

Mary Kom said, "My focus is to win the gold medal for India at the Olympics. Even after being so old, I have been working hard till now. At first, it was very difficult for me to qualify for the Olympics. I don't have a secret formula to make it to the World Championship or Olympics. I will always work hard and struggle constantly. I will not give up until I win a gold medal in the Olympics."
