Death Sentence to Four Convicts in Jaipur Bomb Blast

The four convicts of Jaipur bomb blast 2008 have been sentenced to death on Friday after 11 years and seven months. Special Court Judge Ajay Kumar Sharma sentenced Sarwar Azmi, Mohammad Saif, Saifur Rahman and Salman. The punishment points were debated on Thursday after the four accused in the blast were convicted on Wednesday. Before the debate, the four convicts were brought to court amid tight security.

Significantly, on May 13, 2008, there were a series of bomb blasts at eight places in Pink City. In these 71 people were killed, while 185 were injured. The court has convicted Muhammad Saif, Saifur Rahman, Sarwar Azmi and Muhammad Salman under the Murder, Treason and Explosives Act.

The special court acquitted Muhammad Shahbaz Ahmed, resident-Lucknow, who took responsibility for these blasts by emailing the name of Indian Mujahideen the next day of the blasts. He was arrested in September 2008. The prosecution could not present evidence against him.

On Wednesday, the special court convicted four of the five accused in the case of eight serial blasts in the Rajasthan capital, Jaipur, about 11 years ago. All four are residents of Uttar Pradesh. Acquitted, giving benefit of doubt to one. There were 10 accused of the blasts, two of whom were killed in the Batla House encounter in Delhi in September 2008 and three are still absconding. 71 people were killed and 185 were injured in the blasts. It is worth noting that on May 13, 2008, in Jaipur's Parkota area, a pink city was rocked by eight bomb blasts in 15 minutes between seven and half past seven in the evening.
