Two-wheeler Companies Ready to Start Production

Nidhi Hakla

Two-wheeler manufacturing companies are looking ready for production.  They are now waiting for dealers' showrooms to open.  Companies are showing themselves capable of producing up to 50 percent of their production capacity in May.  Companies say that two-wheeler demand at the domestic level cannot be estimated right now.  Any such estimate can be made only after complete lockdown is removed.

According to Bajaj Auto, the company has been allowed to run its plant at Pantnagar with full capacity.  Company managers believe that the plant can do full production only when the dealership is fully operational.  The company can produce at 50 percent capacity in May.  Production of one or two percent dealers may not speed up production.  Bajaj also has good export orders.

Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Director (Sales & Marketing), Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said that his company is ready for production and two-three units have got approval for production.  There are other types of preparations going on from sanitizing to production.  But the most important thing for production is the consumption of that item.

Apart from this, production can be given full speed only when the supply chain is fully operational.  In both these cases, there is still obstruction.  He said that production is still difficult in a red zone area like Pune.  The company is not yet confident about the demand.  They say that one can only estimate demand when the network is fully operational.  Now companies can plan ahead by keeping an eye on the changes in social and economic behavior after being completely free from lockdown and corona.
