Amidst ongoing discussions within the Congress high command regarding the Chief Ministerial candidate for Karnataka, a series of meetings have been observed between leaders from Karnataka and Delhi.

Meanwhile, the Sunni Ulma Board, comprising Muslim leaders, has called for the appointment of a Deputy Chief Minister from their community in Karnataka.

The board has also urged that five Muslim MLAs be appointed as ministers in crucial departments such as Home Affairs, Revenue, and Health.

Big role of Muslims in the victory of Congress in Karnataka

According to Shafi Sadi, Chairman of the Karnataka Waqf Board, prior to the elections, they had expressed their stance on having a Muslim candidate as the Deputy Chief Minister and requested 30 seats.

However, they received 15 seats, with 9 Muslim candidates emerging victorious. Sadi emphasized that the Muslim community played a significant role in securing approximately 72 assembly seats for the Congress party.

Having made substantial contributions, he stated that the time has come for the community to receive appropriate recognition and representation in return.

The Waqf Board Chairman further said that the Congress party will make the decision regarding the allocation of posts among the nine Muslim candidates.

He added that many Muslim candidates went beyond their constituencies to campaign and promote Hindu-Muslim unity, which significantly contributed to Congress' victory.

Sadi stressed that it is Congress' responsibility to have a deserving Muslim candidate as the Deputy CM of Karnataka.
