A shocking survey has come out on deepfake or AI-generated content. One in every four people in India is facing deepfake content. Lok Sabha elections 2024 are currently being held in India.
During the election season, many users are often facing political content created by AI on social media. Cybersecurity company McAfee released this report on Thursday, April 25.
According to a cybersecurity firm, about 75 per cent of Indian users have encountered deepfake content. Most of these users have come across AI-generated political content on social media platforms.
Of these AI-generated contents, 44 per cent have used the faces of public figures or celebrities. Additionally, 31 per cent of the content has been used to influence elections.
McAfee reported in its survey that cases of deepfake or AI-generated content have increased rapidly in India over the past few months, involving the use of both public and private figures.
AI technology makes it easy to alter both voice and visual appearance. The authenticity of content is greatly compromised due to deepfakes, posing significant challenges during the current election year.
The cybersecurity firm conducted this survey among over 7,000 global customers, including users from the UK, USA, France, Germany, Australia, and Japan, in addition to India. The survey was carried out in January and February of this year.
