IPL 2023: Delhi Capitals have announced the replacement for injured captain Rishabh Pant in the upcoming 2023 IPL season.

Veteran batsman David Warner has been appointed as the new captain, while spin all-rounder Akshar has been named as the vice-captain of the team.

The decision was officially confirmed by Chief coach Ricky Ponting and the team management.

Rishabh Pant suffered injuries in a car accident near Roorkee in December and is currently recovering, but unfortunately, he will not be able to participate in the IPL this year.

Delhi Capitals were searching for a new captain after Pant's injury, and they have now settled on Warner to take over the responsibility.

David Warner has been appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL 2023 season, making it the second time he will be leading the team.

David Warner, the veteran Australian batsman, is set to lead Delhi Capitals for the second time in IPL 2023.

He previously served as the team's interim captain in a couple of matches between 2009 and 2013.

Additionally, Warner has also captained Sunrisers Hyderabad, having been bought by the team in 2014 and appointed as captain in 2015.

He led the team in a total of 69 matches, out of which 35 were won, 32 were lost, and 2 matches resulted in a tie.

David Warner's IPL batting record is impressive, with a total of 2840 runs scored at an average of 47.33, which includes one century and 26 half-centuries as a captain.

However, during the 2021 IPL, Hyderabad made the decision to pass the captaincy to Kane Williamson, as Warner was struggling with poor form.

As a result, Hyderabad released him before the IPL 2022 auction, and he was subsequently bought by Delhi Capitals for a price of Rs 6.25 crore.
