IND Vs AUS: These 5 Players from India Can be Rested in ODI Series against Australia

Deepak Sharma

IND Vs AUS: The series between India and Australia has been started in Nagpur today i.e. Feb 09. The Border Gavaskar Trophy will be a four-match Test series and then these two teams, India and Australia will also face off in the three-match series of the one-day international format starting in Mumbai on 17th March 2023 at Wankhede Stadium.

The men in blue players will also participate in the two-month-long TATA IPL 2023 season at home. The ODI squad and the dates for the next IPL season haven’t been announced yet.

But to manage the workload of the Indian players, here are the five Indians who might be rested for the upcoming three-match series of the one-day international format according to Since Independence.

1. Rohit Sharma

India's Rohit Sharma

The Indian skipper is currently leading the side in the Border Gavaskar Trophy and he will be captain in all four Test matches against The Aussies in this series.

As said earlier, India must win this series to qualify for the WTC Final in 2023. If the men in blue win this series by a margin of 3-1 or 3-0, then they will face Australia again and Rohit will be the one to lead that Test side.

The selectors and the team management will rest Rohit Sharma after such a long Test series and HITMAN will be an integral part of the TATA IPL 2023 season as well for Mumbai Indians.

With World Test Championship final on the cards for India, the decision to rest Rohit for the upcoming ODI series looks brighter.

Hardik Pandya has replaced Rohit as the skipper in the shortest format and Hardik can also captain this ODI series against The Aussies as well.

2. Virat Kohli

Run Machine of the men in blue side, Virat Kohli

The former Indian skipper too can be given a rest in the fifty overs series after the four-match Test series of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Virat Kohli will be a key player for India in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and he showed great form in the series against Sri Lanka.

But his performance went down against a tougher opponent, New Zealand. Still, there is a chance for Kohli to rest in the three-match ODI series against Australia to manage the workload and be fresh for the WTC Final.

India looks certain to qualify for that ICC mega event in the red ball format.

3. Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami

Shami has been an ace pacer for India across formats. He has been in-charge of India’s pace bowling department, especially in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

Shami will have to do a lot of work in the current series as a pace bowler and he was also given a rest in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand.

Shami will also be in the action for the defending Champions of the TATA IPL, Gujarat Titans. So there will be a lot of work put in for Shami and that is why he will be given a rest for the ODI series against Australia.

India have plenty of options like Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Umesh Yadav, and many more young pacers who can replace Shami for that fifty overs series against The Aussies.

4. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja

The spin all-rounder has returned to the India team after a long layoff because of injuries. He has been featured in the first Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur today.

Jaddu will also have to put in a lot of work straight away after recovering from injury and that might not be so easy.

He will also play the IPL for Chennai Super Kings. CSK had another disappointing season last year like the IPL 2020 and so, Jadeja will put in some extra efforts for his Yellow Army side.

Jaddu is another player who might be rested for the ODI series against Australia. Axar Patel, who is part of the Test series will be Jadeja’s ideal replacement.

India also has Washington Sundar, who is another spin-bowling all-rounder.

5. Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj

The number one bowler in the one-day international ranking might not play in the upcoming ODI series against Australia because of workload management.

Mohammed Siraj is also part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy like all the above-mentioned players and after such a long series of the red ball format, Siraj will be given a rest for the fifty overs series.

He will also play the Indian Premiere League matches and in the absence of Boom Boom Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj is the second spearhead for India in the pace bowling department.
