Lok Sabha Elections: Another Congress candidate has withdrawn from contesting the elections. Sucharita Mohanty, the Congress candidate from the Puri Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, has withdrawn her name citing financial reasons.

Before this, a Congress candidate from Indore also withdrew his nomination after submitting it.

Similarly, the nomination of the Congress candidate for the Surat Lok Sabha seat was cancelled.

Sucharita Mohanty Cites Lack of Funding for Campaign as Reason

Sucharita Mohanty returned her Congress party ticket on Saturday, claiming she received no financial support from the party for her election campaign.

She has sent an email to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, stating her decision to return her parliamentary ticket.

According to media reports, Sucharita Mohanty wrote that her election campaign for the Puri Lok Sabha seat was severely affected because the party refused to provide her with funding.

The in-charge of Odisha Congress, Dr. Ajoy Kumar, had reportedly told her to bear the campaign expenses herself.

Sucharita Wrote: "Congress Values Are in My DNA"

Sucharita Mohanty wrote that she has been a professional journalist who became actively involved in politics 10 years ago. She explained that she had put all her efforts into the election campaign and even tried to collect donations from people, but was unsuccessful.

She appealed to the party's central leadership to provide necessary funding from the party funds to enable effective campaigning for the Puri Lok Sabha seat.

Mohanty noted that only the lack of funds could prevent her from winning the Puri Lok Sabha seat, as she is not able to continue the campaign on her own.

While returning her party ticket, she stated that she is a Congresswoman and that Congress values are ingrained in her DNA. Mohanty added, "I will continue to be a soldier for Congress."

Sucharita Mohanty stated, "I returned the party ticket because the party is not able to provide me with the necessary funding. Another reason is that candidates who could win the 7 assembly seats under Puri Lok Sabha constituency were not given tickets. Instead, weaker candidates have been chosen. Under these circumstances, I cannot contest the election."
