Delhi Capitals (DC) faced Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Wednesday in Phase-2 of IPL 2021. The match started with SRH winning the toss and electing to bat. The team scored 134/9 playing first. DC had a target of 135 runs, which the team easily achieved at the loss of 2 wickets with 13 balls to spare. Shreyas Iyer scored 47 not out in 41 balls and captain Rishabh Pant scored 35 not out off 21 balls in the team's victory.
This is Sunrisers Hyderabad's fourth consecutive defeat in the current season and the team is at the bottom of the points table at the eighth position. In the eight matches of IPL 2021, SRH has won only one match so far. If the team wants to make it to the playoffs, it will have to win at least six matches out of the remaining seven and also improve its run rate.
Chasing the target, Delhi's first wicket fell in the form of Prithvi Shaw(11). His wicket came in the account of Khaleel Ahmed. The special thing was that Kane Williamson took a brilliant catch of Shaw while running for a long time. Commenting on Williamson's catch, Sunil Gavaskar said- This catch reminded me of Kapil Dev. Dhawan scored 42 off 37 balls and was dismissed by Rashid Khan. Before losing his wicket, Dhawan completed 400+ runs in IPL for the sixth time in a row. Dhawan has scored 422 runs in this season so far. Also, this is the eighth time in the history of IPL that Shikhar has scored 400+ runs in a season.
Former SRH captain David Warner disappointed everyone and returned to the pavilion after being dismissed for zero in the very first over. Wriddhiman Saha(18) also returned to the pavilion early after his wicket. Saha managed to take the wicket of Kagiso Rabada. Captain Williamson (18) had got two lives within three balls, but he could not take advantage of it and was dismissed by Axar Patel. Just two balls after his wicket, Rabada broke the back of Hyderabad by dismissing Manish Pandey (17).
