Former Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap's amazing run at the Canada Open Super 100 tournament arrived at an end after he lost a three-game spine chiller to China's Li Shi Feng in the men's singles summit clash here.

The final matches of the Canada Open were played yesterday on the seventh of July in Calgary, Canada.

Parupalli Kashyap was the first Indian to make it to the final but failed to cross the last hurdle.

Ranked 36 in the world, Kashyap went down against world number 126, China's Li Shi Feng 22-20, 14-21, 17-21 of every a match going on for one hour and sixteen minutes.

Kashyap's physical wellness was put through an extraordinary test in this competition, as four out of the five matches he played in this competition went on for over 60 minutes. He won his second round match against the Chinese Ren Peng Bo by a score of 23-21,21-23,21-19 and vanquished Frenchman Lucas Claerbout by 12-21, 23-21, 24-22 in the quarterfinals.

After such debilitating matches, he vanquished higher positioned Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei 14-21, 21-17, 21-18 in the semi-finals. Kashyap was viewed as the most loved to win the title in the final, however, the youngest Chinese shuttler edged past him.

Kashyap's last title win came way back in 2018 when he won the Austrian Open International challenge. He will next be seen playing in the US Open 2019, which is beginning from tomorrow. He will confront India's rising star, Lakshya Sen, in the opening round.
