Gyanvapi Masjid Case: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to hear a plea seeking the right to worship the 'Shivling' found at the disputed Gyanvapi Masjid site in Varanasi.

The Gyanvapi Masjid is located next to the Vishwanath Temple in the historic city of Kashi, Uttar Pradesh.

The Supreme Court fixed the first week of October for hearing the matter related to the Gyanvapi Masjid.

The Court further said that it will await the outcome of the case which is being heard by the District Court, Varanasi filed by the Anjuman Intejemia Masjid Committee, questioning the sustainability of the trial.

Petition had sought the right to worship the 'Shivling'

The Supreme Court bench said it has already transferred the matter to the district judge, challenging the survey report of the court-appointed commission in a petition filed by the Anjuman Intejamiya Masjid Committee, which manages the Gyanvapi Masjid.

The petition had sought the right to worship the 'Shivling' allegedly discovered in the Gyanvapi Masjid during a videographic survey.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli heard a petition filed by advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain on behalf of Hindu devotees.

The PIL was listed before the apex court for an urgent hearing.

Carbon dating of the Shivling

This is a petition to allow Darshan and Worship of the Shivling that has been found in the premises and also to direct the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to do carbon dating," Jain said.

The petition of the Hindu side had sought permission to worship the 'Shivling' and a direction to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust to take possession of it. It also asked the court to order carbon dating of the Shivling.
