Brij 84 Kos: Government Agrees to Listen to Demands of Saints, Forest Protected Area to be Declared in 15 Days
Illegal Mining in Brij 84 Kos: The ongoing movement against illegal mining in Brij 84 for several years has finally been successful. After nearly 551 days of agitation, the government has accepted the demands of the saints (sadhus).
After talks with Cabinet Minister Vishwendra Singh, Collector Alok Ranjan and IG Gaurav Srivastava, an agreement has been reached that the saints have ended the strike on the assurance of declaring the lease allotted to Aadi Badri-Kankanchal as a forest-protected area in 15 days.
Illegal Mining in Brij 84 Kos: 749-hectare area will be declared as forest area
Illegal mining was going on in Brij 84 Kos for the last several years. The mining mafia were destroying the Aadi Badri and Kankanchal hills for their own benefit. But now after this movement, the government has listened to the request of the saints.
According to the sources, 749 hectares will be declared as forest area in Aadi Badri and Kankanchal.
It is being told that in the agreement, it has been said to declare the disputed area as a forest area by issuing a notification within 15 days.
Illegal Mining in Brij 84 Kos: Sant Baba Vijay Das set himself on fire
On Wednesday, July 20, during the agitation, after Sant Baba Vijay Das set himself on fire, the administration reached Pasopa Dham and talked to the saints.
On July 20, when a saint set fire and the government realized the seriousness of the movement and the entire administration of the state, including the Collector, IG, reached to negotiate with the saints.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had a meeting on Wednesday afternoon regarding the entire incident, after which the decision taken in this meeting was sent to Bharatpur Collector.
Bharatpur Collector read out the decision to all the saints, then the saints left the dharna site. Collector Alok Ranjan read out that the government has directed that action will be taken to declare Aadi Badri Dham and Kankanchal hill area as forest area in 15 days.
Movement was going on for several months
This movement was going on for several months. On 11 January 2021, Baba Haribol raised his voice against the government.
The saints were agitating in the Pasopa Dham of Brij for the last 551 days and were raising their voice to save their revered Aadi Badri and Kankanchal.
Priyanka Gandhi and CM Gehlot met the agitators, but mining did not stop. Now when a saint put his life on the line, then this silent administration and government woke up and immediately called a meeting on the issue of mining.
After the meeting, it was decided to declare the disputed area as a forest area.
Mining is going on since 2009
In the year 2009 also, the religious mountains of Brij falling in Deeg and Kaman tehsils of Bharatpur were declared protected forest areas.
But at that time due to tehsil differences, Kankanchal, the main mountain of Brij and some parts of Aadi Badri were left out of being protected forest area.
But now due to the status of forest protected land to the area of Kankanchal and Aadi Badri hills, mining will not be done here.
According to a 1996 order of the Supreme Court, mining cannot be done in a forest protected area.
