Prophet Remarks Controversy: Mumbai Police has issued notice to suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma asking her to appear on June 25 and record a statement regarding her objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The Pydhonie police had registered an FIR against Nupur Sharma for hurting religious sentiments by making derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

A notice under section 41 of CrPC has been issued asking Nupur Sharma to appear before the investigating officer on June 25 at 11 am.

Police said heavy police personnel would be deployed around the police station on June 25 to prevent any untoward incident.

Mumbai Police chief Sanjay Pandey held a meeting with Muslim leaders on Friday i.e. on June 10 and appealed to them to maintain peace.

At the same time, the police have also sought a video of the debate from the news channel concerned in this case, in which Nupur Sharma had made the remark which had created a controversy.

Earlier, the Mumbra police had also issued a notice against Nupur Sharma asking her to appear before her on June 22. An FIR has also been registered against Nupur Sharma on the same issue.

On Friday, protests, stone-pelting and violence were witnessed in states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Delhi over Nupur Sharma's statement.

At the same time, taking action in this matter, BJP had suspended Nupur Sharma and expelled another leader Naveen Jindal from the party. Several FIRs have also been registered against Nupur Sharma in different states of the country.
