COVID-19 Update: Over 12K New Cases and 42 Deaths Reported in Last 24 Hours

COVID-19 Update: As per the Union health ministry's latest update on April 22, the number of active Covid-19 cases in India has increased to 67,556, with 12,193 new cases recorded within the last 24 hours.

After the death of 42 more people, the death toll from the virus has increased to 5,31,300.

India's total Covid-19 caseload has reached 4,48,81,877, with active cases making up only 0.15% of the total.

The national recovery rate for Covid-19 stands at an impressive 98.66%, with a total of 4,42,83,021 people having recovered from the disease so far.

The case fatality rate in the country is currently at 1.18%, according to the latest update.

As per the ministry's website, people in India have received a total of 220.66 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines until now.

Central Govt Requests 8 States to Enhance Covid Surveillance

In light of the increasing Covid-19 cases in India, the Central government has urged eight states and Union Territories - Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan - to enhance their coronavirus surveillance in all districts.

The Union Health Secretary, Rajesh Bhushan, has communicated this request to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, and Secretary (Health) of these eight States and UTs through a written letter issued on Friday, April 21.

Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Fever or Chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Loss of smell or taste

  • Diarrhea

  • Sore Throat

  • Vomiting

It's important to note that some people with COVID-19 may not experience any symptoms at all, while others may have severe symptoms that require hospitalization.
