Anglo-Mysore War II: The first Anglo-Mysore war ended up signing a pact between the Mughals and the Britishers called the Madras treaty of 1769.

The second war took place in the year 1780-1784, and the reason for starting the war was the violation of the Madras Treaty when the Mysore got attacked by Marathas in 1771, and again Haider Ali paid ₹36 lakh to the Maratha as negotiation.

Anglo-Mysore War II: United Mughal-Maratha-Nizam to strike Britishers

After the realization of the hollow promises of the Britishers, Haider Ali decided to form an alliance with the Maratha and the Nizam of Hyderabad to attack the area of Arcot under British control.

The reason for Maratha to form an alliance was the Anglo-Maratha war of 1775.

The three empires together went to demolish the British Raj and establish their own new reign in Arcot.

All three rulers attacked the Arcot from the three sides and the fourth side was attacked by Tipu Sultan (son of Haider Ali).

The region of Arcot got covered from all four sides and there was no defence at all. Britishers on this sent help with two different troops-

• One from Guntur, led by Col. William Baillie.

• and another from Madras, led by Major Hector Munro.

But they all got defeated by Tipu Sultan and moved back.

Anglo-Mysore War II: Manipulation of Eyre Coote

After losing the fight, Britishers responded with reinforcement as Eyre Coote was known for his manipulative skills. He first attacked the kingdom of Mysore to make Haider Ali feel Nostalgic and to break their formation.

The result was on the Britisher's side as Tipu Sultan left his side to defend Mysore. Eyre Coote also convinced the Maratha and Nizam to fall back by blackmailing them regarding their kingdoms.

Anglo-Mysore War II: Easy battle for Eyre Coote

Now Haider Ali was all alone on his own on the battlefield which gave the Britishers an upper hand.

Three battles were fought between the Britishers and the Nawab of Mysore, and all of them ended up with the victory of Eyre Coote.

In 1782, Haider Ali died due to cancer leaving the remaining fight to his son- Tipu Sultan.

Tipu Sultan also fought various battles with Eyre Coote which had no outcome other than the degradation of the kingdom's treasures.

The war this time ended up with a victory for Britishers and a pact was again signed. This time it was called "TREATY OF MANGALORE".

This is how the second Anglo-Mysore war ended up with a new reign dominated by the Britishers.
