Tokyo Olympics 2021: IOC Sets New Deadline for Qualification Period

The International Olympic Committee has set June 29, 2021, as the new deadline for the qualification period of the Tokyo Olympics. The Olympics have been postponed for a year due to the coronavirus epidemic. IOC Director (Solidarity and NOC Relations) James McLeod gave this information in a letter sent to all National Olympic Committee presidents, general secretaries, and campaign heads.

In the letter written on April 2, the deadline for the revised sports entries has been set as July 5, 2021. McLeod wrote, 'The new deadline for qualification is 29 June 2021. International federations can decide their qualification period which should be earlier.'

He said, 'We understand that details cannot be given at this time regarding dates and places. Details will be given only after the situation is clear. ' He also said that the international federations will have full right to set new ranking deadlines for the games in which quota depends on ranking.
