Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has completed one year on Sunday. In the first year of the scheme, about 47 lakh people were treated in the hospital, on which Rs 7,500 crore was spent.

The National Health Authority (NHA) gave this information in a statement. The statement said that 46.40 lakh people were treated in the hospital in the first year of the scheme, on which about Rs 7,500 crore was spent. Every minute nine people were admitted to the hospital for treatment under the scheme.

Modi launched the scheme on 23 September 2018 in Ranchi. NHA Chief Executive Officer Dr Indu Bhushan said, 'Our emphasis is on ensuring that more and more countrymen are made aware of the scheme so that they can benefit in the event of hospitalization of the disease.'

Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) i.e. Ayushman Bharat, every poor family is provided an annual health insurance of five lakh rupees. Its premium is fully paid by the government. Overall, the benefit of the scheme is estimated to be available to 50 crore countrymen.

Presently this scheme is applicable in 32 states and union territories. Under the scheme, 10.3 crore e-cards have been issued to eligible beneficiaries in a year. The National Health Authority and various states are jointly running the Ayushman Bharat Scheme with strong participation.
