Bathinda Military Station Firing: Following the shooting at the Bathinda military installation in Punjab, which resulted in the deaths of four Army servicemen, Bathinda Police detained an Army jawan a few days later.
On April 12, four Army jawans were shot dead in their sleep during a firefight in their barracks.
On Monday, Punjab Police apprehended Mohan Desai, an Army soldier, for his involvement in the Bathinda military station shooting that resulted in the deaths of four soldiers.
According to police sources, during the interrogation, it was disclosed that the arrested soldier was purportedly being subjected to harassment by the jawans who are now deceased.
The Bathinda military station is one of the country's most important Army outposts, holding a large number of operational units.
Bathinda SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana verified the arrest of the Army gunner. Khurana, however, refused to comment on the specific reasons why the gunner killed the four jawans. "All I can say is that there are personal reasons," he went on to remark.
The four army jawans were killed early Wednesday while sleeping near the barracks behind the officers' mess at Bathinda military station. The shooting occurred at about 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday.
The accused jawan is unmarried and will appear in court. So far, no other people are involved, according to the authorities.
Bathinda Police and Army held a joint news conference in Bathinda on Monday, claiming that the accused, Mohan Desai, killed the jawans out of personal rivalry and that there is no terror connection.
According to them, interrogation of the accused jawan revealed that he was allegedly tormented by the Armymen he killed.
The first information report (FIR) regarding the killing of the four jawans was based on the statements given by Gunner Mohan Desai. However, the Army stated on Monday that Desai had fabricated the story to deceive the investigating agencies.
Based on Desai's statement, the Punjab Police had initially filed the FIR against two unknown individuals who were allegedly wearing white kurta pyjamas and carrying a rifle and an axe at the time of the shooting.
As per the Punjab Police, "The gun and ammunition used in the killing of the jawans were stolen by Desai. He fabricated the story and the axe narrative was untrue. The arrested soldier had attempted to perplex the police."
