Sukma Encounter: An encounter took place between DRG (District Reserve Guard) jawans and Naxals in the Danteshpuram forest area under Bheji police station limits of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh, resulting in the killing of two naxals.
The security forces engaged in the operation to eliminate the Naxals, and the encounter ensued.
The security personnel are currently present at the site of the encounter, and they have initiated a search operation in the forest area.
Sukma police released a statement saying that an encounter took place between security forces and Naxals in the Bheji area, resulting in the death of two Naxalites. A search operation is currently underway in the region.
Sources have reported that two militants, identified as Madkam Erra, the SOS Commander of Golapalli carrying a bounty of Rs 8 lakh, and Podiam Bhime, the wife of Naxal leader Erra with a reward of Rs 3 lakh, were killed by the jawans.
As per reports, the security personnel have found a significant amount of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), weapons, and other materials, including automatic weapons, at the site of the encounter. However, an official statement regarding the recovery is yet to be released.
It has been reported that the Naxals were planning to carry out an attack similar to the 'Aranpur' incident, but their plans were foiled by the security forces.
In an incident earlier this month, a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) was detonated by Maoists on a dirt road, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 personnel from the District Reserve Guards (DRG) and their civilian driver near Aranpur in Dantewada district of Bastar.
The jawans who were wounded in the explosion were also fired upon by the militants.
The convoy consisted of around 200 jawans at the time of the attack, and it is estimated that the explosives used in the blast weighed 50kg.
