India was playing against South Africa in an ODI match in Gwalior on this day, 24th February 2010. Batting first, the Men in Blue piled a huge of 401 runs in their fifty overs quota. The home side reached that score mainly because of just one man, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. The God of Cricket did the unthinkable in the ODI cricket format.

He scored an unbeaten double century in 50 overs and become the first ever batter to do it. Sachin played that match as an opener, and he batted all the fifty overs. Tendulkar took just 147 deliveries to score an unbeaten 200 runs with the help of 25 boundaries and three sixes. India lost the wicket of Virender Sehwag early in that ODI game.

But the Master Blaster shared partnerships with Dinesh Karthik, who was the second highest scorer in that match with 79 runs, Yusuf Pathan, who smashed 36 runs from just 23 deliveries and the captain of that match, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was also not out on 68 runs from just 35 balls which helped the hosts to score that gigantic total on the scoreboard.

In reply, the Proteas managed 248 runs and they were bundled out in just 42.5 overs. India won that match by whopping margin of 153 runs and even clinched that series with a margin of 2-1 as South Africa won the last match of the series at Ahmedabad by 90 runs. AB de Villiers scored 114 runs in that game and he was the top scorer in that match for a losing cause.

Sachin Tendulkar was awarded the player of the match award for his magnificent double century in the one day international format and it is due to him that today there are many Indians who have also scored a double century in the fifty overs format. There are five Indian batters who have amassed a double ton in ODIs.

The current skipper of the Men in Blue, Rohit Sharma is the only player in this whole cricketing world to smash three double hundreds in this form of the game. HITMAN also recorded the highest individual score in the ODI format. He smashed 264 runs from 173 deliveries against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on 13th November 2014.
