On This Day: The current skipper of the fifty overs format and red ball form of the game, Rohit Sharma started his career as a middle order. But nothing worked for him and he also did not contribute significantly to the team’s cause. At that time many believed that Rohit had talent and he didn’t do any justice to it.

But in 2013, things changed for India’s Hitman. In the ICC Champions Trophy played that year in England, Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to promote Rohit Sharma as an opening batter.

From that year onwards Rohit has been a pillar of Indian Cricket in the batting department. He has done many amazing things as the opener in all three forms of this gentlemen’s game.

When the Sri Lankans were asked this mammoth score, they didn’t even reach anywhere closer to that target. The visitors, Sri Lanka was bundled out for just 251 runs in 43.1 overs and the men in blue side won the fourth ODI game of that series by a comfortable margin of 153 runs in the end.

It was a record breaking night for India’s Hitman, Rohit Sharma on this day in 2014. Here is the list of all the records which were broken by Ro-Hit in that game versus Sri Lanka at his favourite venue, Eden Gardens in Kolkata. At this same venue, Sharma ji also smashed twin centuries in the red ball format against West Indies on his Test debut.

  • Rohit became just the 3rd Player After Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to score a double century in ODI Cricket for India that time in 2014.

  • Sharma’s 264 runs also broke the record of Sehwag’s 219 runs which was the earlier highest individual score in the fifty overs format.

  • The 264 run knock from Hitman is still the highest individual score in the one-day international format even after nine long years. Not a single batter has broken it till now and this record seems hard to broken in near future as well.
