IND vs ENG: Every touring team has a dream of winning a red ball series on Indian soil. But very less opposition sides have been successful in doing so.
The conditions, batters and bowlers of the Men in Blue have been dominant in their own home conditions that’s why the touring sides have found it hard to win a series of the red ball format in India.
The England team under Ben Stokes came to India without any series loss. However, England’s BAZBALL style proved to be a flop show as the visitors failed to win the series on this tour.
Stokesy and his men have lost their first-ever series since Ben was appointed as the full-time skipper of England in the red ball format.
England managed to win a close game in Hyderabad, which was the 1st Test match that the visitors won by 28 runs. Since then the Indian Team has successfully put the brakes on the BAZBALL style and the Men in Blue are leading this five-match Test series by a margin of 3-1 with one match to be played. That game will start from tomorrow, Thursday 7th March 2024 to Monday 11th March 2024 in Dharamshala.
Today, in this segment, we will mention that one skipper from England who was the last captain to win a series of the red ball format on the Indian Soil –
On this current tour, England had a torrid time in India since the completion of the first Test match which was played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Uppal. India lost that game by 28 runs.
But this wasn’t the first time that England has been in such a situation. In 2021 as well the visitors won the 1st Test and lost the series. Joe Edward Root scored a fantastic double-century in Chennai, which took the visitors 1-0 up in that series.
However, when England came to India in 2012 under the leadership of Sir Alastair Cook, India won the 1st Test match of the series in Ahmedabad.
That Indian team under Mahendra Singh Dhoni outplayed the visitors in all three departments in the opening red ball match and it looked like that side will whitewash Cook and his men in the series.
But Cook inspired his men to create a history in India and led his team from the front. In the second and the third Test matches, England won it to seal the series. England won the Tests played in Mumbai and Kolkata while the fourth match ended in a draw.
Alastair Cook was the highest run-getter from England while Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann were the highest wicket-takers with the red cherry in hand. England is still the last touring side to win a red ball series in India. They won by a margin of 2-1.
