IND Vs AUS: India has lost the three-match one-day international series by a margin of 1-2 against Australia after the men in blue side lost the 3rd ODI match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, 22nd March 2023.

The hosts, India, had started this series of the fifty overs format with a good win in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

That was the first ODI match which was played on Friday, 17th March 2023 and it was captained by Hardik Pandya when Rohit Sharma was not available for this opening encounter.

But when Rohit was back as a skipper, India lost two back-to-back matches in Vizag and Chennai. Rohit become the sixth Indian skipper to lose an ODI match by 10 wickets in the 2nd ODI and he also lost the first ODI series as a captain of the Indian Team.

India lost the fifty-over series against The Aussies because they couldn’t share any partnerships after the first one-day international match.

In all three formats, partnerships are key to win a cricket match. In this segment, we will present the five best century partnerships for the sixth wicket between IND Vs AUS in the fifty-overs format.

In the first match of the three-match series of the fifty overs format, the home side had done well to bowl out the Aussies for just 188 runs despite a valiant knock from Mitchell Marsh.

But the opening spell from Mitchell Starc had scared India in this low-run chase. India had lost the top-order batters quite early.

Ishan Kishan who came in for Rohit Sharma didn’t use that opportunity and Virat Kohi was also dismissed for just 4 runs.

In such a critical time, it was KL Rahul who held the one end up and shared a much-needed partnership with the skipper Hardik Pandya.

That mini-stand helped the home side to be in the game. Rahul looked good in that game and even scored a half-century to his name.

Later, he shared an unbeaten partnership of 108 runs for the 6th wicket with Ravindra Jadeja which helped the hosts to win that game by five wickets. KL was unbeaten on 74 runs and Jaddu was not out on 45 runs.

2. Pandya and Jadeja shared the highest 6th wicket partnership in Canberra

The highest 6th wicket partnership between IND Vs AUS came in Canberra when India toured Australia in 2020.

India had lost the fifty overs series and they needed to win the last game to get some momentum on this challenging tour.

Apart from Virat Kohli’s 63 runs, no other top-order batsmen could score more runs and that’s why the Blues were under pressure to set a challenging score in front of the Aussies.

Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja shared an unbeaten partnership when the team needed it the most. Their unbeaten 150-run stand allowed the Indian Team to score 302 runs and set Australia a challenging score of 303 runs.

However, the Aussies were bundled out for just 289 runs despite Aaron Finch’s 75 runs and Glenn Maxwell’s 59-run knock.

India won that match by 13 runs and Hardik Pandya was awarded as the player of the match.

The home side lost the recent ODI series to Australia because there was only one such hundred-run partnership in the whole series.

But India needed more to clinch that fifty overs format series and also to be unbeatable at home in ODIs.

The former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya were involved in such a partnership when The Aussies toured India in 2017.

India didn’t get the best of starts in the opening match of the one-day international series in 2017. Virat Kohli was out for a golden duck and the team was under immense pressure when MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya shared a much-needed partnership for the 6th wicket.

India was reeling at 87/5. But the partnership of 118 runs allowed the home side to post a good score of 281 runs.

Later, the Indian bowlers also delivered their best as Australia couldn’t chase the target and India won the match by 26 runs due to the D/L method.

4. Darren Lehmann & Steve Waugh shared a partnership of 103 runs in Sharjah

The fans in Sharjah Cricket Stadium were luckiest to witness a brilliant game of cricket in the tri-series where India, New Zealand and Australia were involved.

The Aussies batted first and posted 272 runs. But their batting display wasn’t a good one as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Australia reached that score mainly because of 103 run stand for the 6th wicket between Steve Waugh and Darren Lehmann. Waugh scored 70 runs while Lehmann smashed 40 runs.

In reply, Sachin Tendulkar helped India to clinch the Coca-Cola Cup. The Master Blaster played a magnificent knock of 134 runs and helped India to win this match single-handedly.

Mohammad Azharuddin also helped the team with 58 runs. But the star of the show was the God of Cricket and India won the final match of this series by six wickets.

5. Sadagoppan Ramesh & Robin Singh’s 123-run partnership in 1999 in Colombo

India was again involved in a tri-nation series with Sri Lanka and Australia. Adam Gilchrist top scored with 77 runs for his team and the Aussies could post 252 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their fifty overs quota.

In reply, India’s top order and lower order didn’t stick to the challenge and they were under pressure in this run chase.

Robin Singh and Sadagoppan Ramesh shared a partnership of 123 runs, which was not enough as the Aussies won this encounter by 41 runs. Ramesh scored 71 runs and Robin scored 75 runs in this game.
