IND Vs AUS 3rd ODI Match: Under Steve Smith, Australia has appeared as a formidable team.
They ended the tour of India in 2023 by winning the final one-day international match at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai yesterday, Wednesday, 22nd March 2023.
The way Australia played the first two Test matches it looked like they would have a tough time in India.
However, their fortunes changed when Steve Smith took over the captaincy from Pat Cummins.
Steve Smith not only won the 3rd Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Indore, but he drew the last red ball game in Ahmedabad and also won the three-match one-day international series and that too after Australia lost the 1st ODI in Mumbai.
The visitors were brilliant in Chennai, especially with the ball in hand. The spinners were excellent and so as the lower and middle-order batters of the Aussie team.
While India was in the run chase of 270 runs at one point. But because of the collapse of India’s middle-order batsmen, the men in blue side were all out for just 248 runs and lost the series by 21 runs.
Today, in this segment, we have listed out the five best performers of the 3rd and final match of this one-day international series.
Only two Indian players have been included in this list mainly because the other Indian players didn’t step up and that is why the home side lost the series by a margin of 2-1.
The player of the match in the 3rd game was Adam Zampa. Zampa was the one who applied the brakes on the Indian batters with regular strikes.
Zampa picked up 4 wickets in a crucial time and that changed the game completely in Australia’s favour. He picked up the wickets of Gill, Rahul, Hardik and Jadeja.
The former Indian skipper looked good in the 2nd ODI as well. But here in the last match of the series, Virat Kohli played a decent innings while chasing a target of 270 runs.
The home side looked assured of a win when Kohli was batting with KL Rahul. But once Rahul was out, Kohli too didn’t stay to guide the team home. Virat scored 54 runs in the final match of this three-match ODI series.
The spin-bowling all-rounder didn’t get more chances on this tour of India in 2023. But when he got the opportunity, Agar grabbed it with both hands.
He enjoyed bowling with Adam Zampa and Agar also played a key role in this win for Australia. Aston picked up two important wickets of Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav in this match.
Team India won the first match under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy in Mumbai when Rohit Sharma wasn’t available.
Hardik Pandya played decently as an all-rounder in the final match of this ODI series. He picked up three crucial wickets and also broke the opening stand.
Pandya scored 40 runs as well. But still, it wasn’t enough for the men in blue side to win that contest.
The player of the series was awarded to Mitchell Marsh for scoring the most runs in these three one-day international games.
Marsh has promoted up the order because of an injury to David Warner. However, when Warner was back in the final ODI Match, he batted at the number four and Marsh still continued to open the innings.
In the 3rd match, Marsh was the top scorer for Australia with 47 runs and he even shared a partnership of 68 runs for the opening wicket with Travis Head.
Marsh was also involved when Australia thrashed India by 10 wickets in the 2nd ODI. In this three-match one-day international series, Marsh scored 194 runs which is the most number of runs.
He also had a best strike rate of 131.08 and an average of 97. His 81-run knock in the first ODI at Mumbai is the highest individual score in this OD series. Marsh has also scored the most half-centuries as well.
