Enhanced Security for Sourav Ganguly: On May 16, the West Bengal Government made the decision to elevate the security cover of former India captain Sourav Ganguly to Z category.
This upgrade comes after the expiration of Ganguly's previous Y category security tenure.
Under the new security cover, Ganguly will be accompanied by approximately 8 to 10 police personnel at all times to ensure his safety.
According to an official statement from PTI, following the expiration of the VVIP's security cover, a protocol review was conducted, resulting in the decision to elevate Sourav Ganguly's security cordon to the Z category.
Despite no formal request from Sourav Ganguly to enhance the security arrangements, the Bengal government has taken proactive measures to strengthen the security system.
In the previous security category, Sourav Ganguly was assigned three police personnel from the special branch, along with an equal number of law enforcers safeguarding his residence in Behala.
However, on Tuesday, officials from the state secretariat visited Sourav Ganguly's Behala office to discuss security matters. The meeting included representatives from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar, as well as local police station authorities.
Presently, Sourav Ganguly is associated with the Delhi Capitals franchise as a Director of Cricket in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
Following his engagements with the team, he is scheduled to return to Kolkata. An official shared, "Ganguly is presently travelling with the Delhi Daredevils and is expected to arrive in Kolkata on May 21. Commencing from that day, he will be provided with Z category security."
It is noteworthy that Ganguly's security arrangement will commence upon his return to Kolkata, ensuring his safety in the city.
