Nervous Nineties of TATA IPL 2023: Being stranded or getting out in the score of 90s is an agony to the batsmen in whichever format he plays.
Imagine the pain Sachin Tendulkar had in his glorious career of International cricket. We know that The God of Cricket had 100 international centuries. But he was also the one who had the most nervous nineties in his 24-year career.
The Master Blaster had 28 scores of nervous nineties in his career, which is the most by any player in the cricketing world and that too across the two formats like fifty overs and red ball cricket.
Sachin played in the Indian Premier League tournament. But he never represented the country in the T20 International format.
Yesterday, Shubman Gill scored a magnificent hundred against Sunrisers Hyderabad. That gem of an innings from Gill allowed Gujarat Titans to qualify for the playoff berth and it also ensured that the defending champions will finish in the top two rankings as well.
However, there were some batters who couldn’t get to the three-figure mark in this season. Let us know about the six batsmen of the TATA IPL 2023 season who couldn’t get a century and were stranded or dismissed in their nervous nineties.
The current skipper of the Punjab Kings side, Shikhar Dhawan was the first to get to this unwanted feat. Gabbar played a wonderful innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The PBKS side was struggling in that match.
But Skipper Shikahr held the innings together and mustered useful unbeaten 99 runs. But it wasn’t enough as SRH won that game quite comfortably in the end and still Dhawan was awarded the man of the match for his brilliant batting effort.
The opening batter from Royal's camp is making the most of his chances in this season. Jaiswal also slammed a century and he is also the quickest to score a half-century in this tournament.
While chasing a modest score of 150 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders, Yashasvi was unbeaten on 98 runs and gave Rajasthan a Royal win in that game.
India’s all-format opener and the opening batter of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill too has recorded a brilliant 101 runs yesterday and he has also been in the nervous nineties of the TATA IPL 2023 season.
Against Lucknow Super Giants, Gill smashed 91 runs from just 51 balls that allowed GT to win that match quite handsomely.
The T20 International skipper of England, Jos Buttler was the main force in the last year’s TATA IPL 2022. But in the ongoing edition, Buttler hasn’t been that best as of now.
RR needs him to fire as the playoff race has started. Buttler scored 95 runs against the Orange Army. But that knock went in vain as SRH chased down 215 runs despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
The CSK opener and the future wicket-keeper of the Yellow Army has been in rich form. The New Zealander, Devon Conway is getting those crucial starts for his franchise side.
His 92-run knock against the Punjab Kings side also wasn’t enough. CSK bowlers leaked runs at the start and the later stage of the game which allowed the PBKS Team to chase the 200 runs in the last over and win that thrilling match.
Conway was also awarded the player of the match because of his batting heroics which went in vain.
The list will end with another CSK opener. Ruturaj Gaikwad has also been a decent form and he also scored back-to-back half-centuries in this 16th edition of the Indian Premier League.
Gaikwad scored a useful 92 runs in the first game of this season against Gujarat Titans. But his knock also went in vain as GT had a thumping win in the end against the four-time champions.
