Sukesh Chandrashekhar, facing charges of defrauding, extortion, and money laundering, has written to the Rail Minister, indicating his intention to donate 10 crore rupees to the victims of an Odisha train tragedy.
The accident tragically claimed the lives of over 280 passengers and left more than 1000 injured.
The letter, made public by Sukesh Chandrashekhar's lawyer, Anant Malik, requests permission from the authorities to donate the specified amount.
Sukesh asserts that the funds are sourced from his personal income, which he claims to have acquired through legitimate means.
He emphasizes that the funds are entirely tax-compliant, and he pledges to provide the necessary documentation and tax returns along with the demand draft.
Sukesh Chandrashekhar is currently imprisoned in Mandoli Jail in the national capital, having previously been held in Tihar Jail.
The Supreme Court ordered his transfer to Mandoli Jail after discovering that he was violating jail regulations with the assistance of certain prison officials and leading a lavish lifestyle using his financial resources.
In a separate matter, Sukesh is the main accused in a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), with actress Jacqueline Fernandez also implicated in the Rs 200 crore case.
During the ED's investigation, the names of other actors also surfaced, suggesting that Sukesh had bestowed expensive gifts upon Jacqueline Fernandez and others.
In his letter, Sukesh acknowledges that the government is already providing necessary assistance to the affected individuals.
As a responsible citizen, he wishes to contribute the sum of ten crore rupees specifically for the education expenses for the families and children who have lost their loved ones or primary earners.
It is essential to note that while Sukesh Chandrashekhar has made this appeal, he is currently facing serious criminal charges, and his involvement in various illegal activities has been alleged.
The authorities will likely scrutinize the offer and assess its legitimacy before making any decisions regarding its acceptance.
