Lok Sabha Election 2024: All political parties are gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections. In this regard, the Congress party has also intensified its election preparations.
For this, the party will hold a meeting of the Central Election Committee today i.e. on Thursday. During this meeting, the names of the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections will be decided.
According to sources, Congress may give another chance to most of its sitting MPs. The party can also make a strategy to field prominent faces.
The first meeting of the Congress to finalize the candidates will be held on Thursday (March 7) at the party headquarters. According to sources, the Congress Central Election Committee will finalize the names of candidates for more than 100 seats.
According to sources, in the meeting, the seats of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and North-Eastern states will be discussed. Apart from this, the party can also discuss some seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Sources reveal that the Congress leadership is expecting senior leaders to contest the elections, where former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel is expected to contest from Rajnandgaon.
Meanwhile, UP State President Ajay Rai can get ticket from Varanasi and Delhi State President Arvinder Singh Lovely can get ticket from North East Delhi. Deepender Singh Hooda can contest elections from Rohtak.
The picture is unclear regarding big names like Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot. The biggest suspense is regarding Rahul Gandhi's seat and Priyanka Gandhi's candidature.
It is still not clear whether any member of the Gandhi family will contest from Amethi and Rae Bareli or not.
Caste dynamics and winning factors will be taken into consideration in the selection of candidates. Discussions and consultations are also underway with allied parties in coalition states.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge recently formed screening committees for different regions to finalize candidate selections.
The screening committees send one or two names for consideration to the Pradesh Election Committee, which then sends them to the Central Election Committee for final approval.
