Operation Kaveri: On Wednesday (April 26), a special airplane carrying 360 Indian people rescued from Sudan landed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Upon arriving in Delhi from conflict-ridden Sudan, the Indian people cheered and shouted slogans like 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai,' 'Indian Army Zindabad,' and 'PM Narendra Modi Zindabad.'
The Indian nationals were flown out of Sudan on a Saudi jet. The evacuation was carried out by the kingdom's naval troops, who were aided by other divisions of the Army.
The Indian nationals arrived in Delhi yesterday from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The government has begun 'Operation Kaveri' to bring back Indian people who have become stranded in troubled Sudan.
Ministers tweeted about the Evacuation
The arrival of the evacuees was announced on Twitter by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who wrote, "#OperationKaveri brings 360 Indian Nationals to the homeland as first flight reaches New Delhi."
The flight from Jeddah to New Delhi, carrying 360 Indians, departed earlier yesterday.
The government is working tirelessly under #OperationKaveri to evacuate Indian people from Sudan and return them safely," MoS Muraleedharan tweeted.
Indian nationals are thanking PM Modi after returning
An Indian national who recently returned from Sudan expressed gratitude to the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The Indian government was quite supportive. It's a significant deal that we got here safely because it was quite perilous. She expressed her gratitude towards Prime Minister Modi and the Indian government, saying "I am thankful to PM Modi and the Indian government."
Meanwhile, the second IAF C-130J flight has also left Port Sudan for Jeddah, according to MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, with 135 passengers on board.
The ministry announced on Friday that its primary focus was on ensuring the safety of around 3,000 Indian citizens who were dispersed throughout Sudan on a temporary basis.
In the past 12 days, around 400 individuals have been reported dead as a result of the conflict between Sudan's military and a paramilitary group.
