The Competition Commission of the European Union (EU) has imposed a penalty of 1.49 billion euros ($ 1.68 billion) on Google for unfair trade practices in the market. This penalty has been charged with misuse of its strong position in online advertising. This is the third opportunity when the commission has imposed a penalty on Google for violating competition rules.

EU Commissioner Competition Commissioner Margaret Vestiger gave a brief on the results of the long-running investigation of Google's Adsense advertising business at a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday. He said, "The investigation shows how Google misused its strong position to stop websites using brokers instead of the AdSense platform."

The commission found that Google and its parent company, Alphabet, violated EU anti-competitive regulations. The company used restrictive provisions in the contract with websites using Adsense. Through this, Google's rival companies were prevented from giving their advertisements on these websites.
