The Rajasthan government has issued important guidelines related to service benefits to ex-servicemen serving in the Indian armies. These instructions have been issued by the Department of Personnel of the State Government regarding giving more than once (double) benefits to the ex-servicemen in the state services. According to the instructions, if an ex-serviceman accepts employment in the public service, he will lose his status as an ex-serviceman, only as a civil employee or public servant, he will get the benefits of reservation. After accepting employment in any public service under the state on behalf of an ex-serviceman, he will lose his status as an ex-serviceman and he will only be considered as a public servant.

The right to receive any benefits as an ex-serviceman shall generally be deemed to be terminated as soon as he accepts re-employment in any post of public service after availing reservation benefits as ex-serviceman. Ex-servicemen other public servants shall be considered as officers to receive benefits like relaxation of permitted age etc. in normal condition i.e. age related in service rules related to any recruitment notwithstanding the provisions of Rajasthan Civil Service (Amalgamation of Ex-servicemen) Rules, 1988 as amended. The relaxation is payable to other public servants / candidates. It will also be payable to ex-servicemen, that is, whatever beneficial provision in both rules regarding age related laxity, ex-servicemen will get the benefit of it.

These instructions of the state government are being linked with the elections of upcoming local bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions. A large number of ex-servicemen live in Sikar, Churu, Jhunjhunu and Alwar districts of the state. Ex-servicemen influence the politics of many districts of the state. Now by making them happy, the Ashok Gehlot government has tried to take political advantage in the elections.
