Punjab: 2.5 Lakh Employees Ready to Flee as soon as Industrial Units Start Returning to Work

Due to the nationwide lockdown due to the covid-19 epidemic, there was complete emphasis on imposing the ban in all the states at the end of March, then suddenly Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh started the production of all industrial units and brick-kiln owners of the state.  Saying that the owners of these units can start production if the workers stay and arrange for food.

The Chief Minister had clearly stated that such arrangements by the owners of industrial units will not only end the migration of laborers from Punjab, but this step taken in Punjab will also set a precedent for other states to prevent the return of workers. The Captain's decision was welcomed and benefited.  As soon as 11,929 industrial units started in the state, 2.5 lakh workers ready for migration returned to work.  At the same time, thousands of laborers desirous of returning home due to the closure were provided employment through the Panchayats through the policy of harvesting wheat or temporary registration in grain and vegetable mandis.

Till a few days ago, the government, which arranged for their stay and catering by bringing back lakhs of laborers from different districts to their homes on the Punjab-Haryana border located in Shambhu, on their way back to Ludhiana, on their way to their homes.  Established a special control room for registration.  A special team of 22 IAS, IPS and 96 PCS officers were involved in carrying out this mission of 'Homecoming' in the leadership of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to carry the decree of party supremo Sonia Gandhi.
