Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has termed the contrary opinion and opposition in democracy as a compulsory right, saying that tearing paper to show protest is a 'national loss', because this method of protest carries the wrong message to the people. Naidu, while performing a program on Tuesday, said that effective measures exist in the democratic parliamentary system to lodge protests but it is not appropriate to adopt methods other than these.

Earlier on Monday, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi tore the copy of the bill while opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. Naidu termed the adoption of legislative methods, including asking questions in the House to divide the vote, to expose the failures of the government to the Members of Parliament, and said, "By tearing paper, you only do national damage. It should be understood that this causes a lot of damage to the image of the people in the mind of the system.

The Vice President said that opposition and criticism is an essential part of the democratic process and it helps to overcome the shortcomings of the government. That is why in the parliamentary process, various ways of asking questions, voting and private bills have been suggested. Naidu said that through them, the mistakes of the government are being exposed.measures.
