ITTF Challenger Oman Open: Achanta Sharath Kamal Won the Title after 10 Years

Achanta Sharath Kamal of India won the ITTF Challenger Oman Open Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday. He defeated Portugal's top seed, Marcos Freitas 6–11, 11–8, 12–10, 11–9, 3–11, 17–15 in the finals. Kamal won the previous title in 2010. Then he named the title of Egypt Open. He has since reached the semi-finals of Morocco Open in 2011 and India Open in 2017.

Kamal defeated Russia's Kirill Skachkov in the semi-finals. In this match, he lost two games before the Russian player. But after that, he played a strong game, winning the match 11–13, 11–13, 13–11, 11–9, 13–11, 8–11, and 11–7. At the same time, Portugal player Freitas defeated India's Harmeet Desai in the semi-finals. Freights went on to win 7 sets 5-11, 11-9, 6-11, 6-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-3.


After winning the title, Sharath Kamal said, "Playing well here will help in rankings, especially keeping in mind the Asian Olympic qualifiers. This time we had a lot of Indians participating because we are all looking for berths in Tokyo. My performance here will be important for me personally as well as I am ready for the Olympics and hopefully I can make it count. "
