WhatsApp Introduces Chat Lock Feature To Protect Confidential Conversations

WhatsApp Chat Lock Feature: WhatsApp now offers a new feature that allows users to lock certain chats with a password or biometric identification.

Furthermore, these chats will be saved in a separate folder, and the name and actual message will be hidden in the notice, which can only be seen after authentication.

While Android and iOS devices offer the option to lock the entire WhatsApp application using biometrics or a PIN, this new feature enables users to provide additional protection to specific private messages.

Consequently, even if someone manages to gain access to your phone, the locked messages will remain securely private.

WhatsApp already incorporates numerous security and privacy functionalities, such as end-to-end encryption, encrypted chat backup, disappearing messages, screenshot prevention, and the option to choose who can see the last seen status.

Meta's most recent update further enhances the privacy and security aspects of WhatsApp, bolstering its overall protection measures.

WhatsApp will be adding more Chat Lock features

Over the next few months, WhatsApp will be adding more Chat Lock features, such as locks for companion devices and the ability to create a bespoke password for your chats, allowing you to use a password that is distinct from your phone's.

In a recent blog post, WhatsApp expressed that the newly introduced feature would particularly benefit individuals who occasionally share their phones with family members or experience situations where someone else has temporary access to their device when important and sensitive conversations take place.

The instant messaging platform also created a video announcing the new feature and demonstrating its functionality.
