LG is tipped to announce two flagship devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, which is scheduled to take place between February 25 and February 28 in Barcelona. While the company has already confirmed that it will unveil its first 5G phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and 4,000mAh battery at the mobile mega-fest, the LG G8 so far has mostly been a subject of rumors and speculations. But now, days ahead of its February 24 event in Barcelona, LG has confirmed that LG would indeed unveil its next G-series device the LG G8 ThinQ at the event.

The LG G8 ThinQ, which was previously tipped to call the LG G8, as the company has confirmed will come with a special Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor that will enable the phone not just to capture better selfies but also increase the accuracy of its 3D face recognition system.

The ToF sensors work by bouncing and capturing infrared light off the subject. It will not only enable the LG G8 ThinQ to "deliver a new level of front camera capability in a smartphone" but it will also enable the LG G7 ThinQ successor to be used in augmented reality and virtual reality applications. According to LG, using the ToF sensors will also reduce the workload on the processor, thereby reducing the battery consumption.

Notably, the ToF sensor also explains some of the previous rumors which suggested that LG could swap out the earpiece in the notch to use the Sound-on-Display (SoD) technology instead. SoD technology will enable the phone to produce sound with a combination of bone conduction technology and vibrations to produce sound.

Other than that, the LG G8 ThinQ is expected to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset and triple-rear camera setup. It is likely to come with a 6GB RAM and a memory that can be expanded further using a 2TB microSD card.

However, the most outlandish feature of the phone is expected to be a second attachable screen. So far there is no confirmation on how the second screen would be attached on to the phone. We will have to wait till February 24 when LG is expected to officially launch the phone.
