According to authorities, a man was attacked and intimidated for posting good reviews about the controversial film "The Kerala Story" on his social media account and urged people, particularly young women, to watch it. In this situation, police have detained a youngster.

After being assaulted, the victim, a member of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), filed a complaint at the Mandir police station and subsequently lodged an FIR against three individuals.

According to ACP Derawar Singh, the victim reported to the police that he was driving back home on Saturday night when three men stopped him. 

The three men alleged that the victim had offended their community by expressing admiration for a movie on his WhatsApp status.

Furthermore, the ACP stated that the three men also subjected the victim to physical assault and threatened him with severe consequences.

The event is being investigated, he added.

Film 'The Kerala Story' released this Friday

When the teaser of the film 'The Kerala Story' was released in November of last year, it provoked a significant backlash. 

The film, which was released on Friday i.e. May 05, is about religious brainwashing in Kerala and the alleged targeting of Hindu and Christian women by extremist Islamic clerics. 

As per the film The Kerala Story, a group of women were reportedly converted to Islam and subsequently sent to countries like Afghanistan, Yemen, and Syria to participate in the cause of the religion. 

The filmmakers behind the story claimed that around 32,000 women hailing from the southern state were converted to Islam and enlisted by the terrorist group, Islamic State (IS).

Movie faces backlash since its release

Even before its release, the film was met with harsh criticism on social media and in the mainstream media from liberals and Islamists. 

The majority of them were observed in denial mode, denying the fundamental premise of the film in the first place. It was first claimed that no one from Kerala had joined ISIS. 

The film is based on the genuine events of Hindu and Christian females in Kerala who were recruited for love jihad by Islamists in Kerala before being flown to Iraq and Syria to become ISIS terrorists, filmmakers claimed. 

The film was released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam on May 5, 2023.
