Tensions Rise in Punjab After Amritpal Singh and His Associates Arrested

Amritpal Singh Arrested: Khalistani leader and Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh who had previously challenged the Punjab Police and Home Minister Amit Shah has been apprehended along with his 6 associates by the Punjab Police.

Reports indicate that they were detained near Nakodar. The arrest of Amritpal and his associates has further intensified the already heightened tension in the state, resulting in the suspension of internet services as a precautionary measure until Sunday i.e. March 19.

Apparently, the action was taken when Amritpal was travelling in a convoy of three vehicles.

Although two of the vehicles were caught by the police, Amritpal managed to escape in the third one. However, he was later detained by the police near Nakodar.

It is worth noting that the Punjab Police has filed three cases against Amritpal Singh, including one for hate speech, leading to police action being taken against him.

Since morning, a large contingent of police was following the convoy of Amritpal Singh, which was intercepted by the police near Mehatpur village which is 8 km away from Nakodar.

As a result, six of Amritpal Singh's associates travelling in two vehicles were detained by the police but Amritpal managed to escape. However, he was later detained.

Internet suspension in Punjab: Government cites public safety concerns

Following the suspension of Internet services, the Punjab Police issued an appeal to the public to maintain peace and refrain from spreading panic, fake news, or hate speech. "We are committed to ensuring law and order," the Punjab Police tweeted.

The government has ordered the suspension of all mobile internet services, SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge), and dongle services in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety.
