Sale of Liquor in Delhi: Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government has decided to extend the license period of existing liquor shops till August 31 in view of the shortage of liquor in the capital.

468 private liquor shops in Delhi were to be closed from today i.e. August 1 (Monday) after the expiry of the license on July 31.

An official of the Excise Department said that the Delhi government has sent to the Lieutenant Governor the decision of the cabinet to extend the period of existing licenses of liquor shops by one month i.e. till August 31.

Orders to allow the opening of liquor shops after July 31 will be issued after the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.

Officials of the Excise Department related to the matter told the media that the government has decided to increase the licenses of existing liquor shops in Delhi in the cabinet meeting.

In this meeting, the government has sent the decision of the cabinet to the Lieutenant Governor to extend the license of the existing liquor shops for one month till August 31.

Orders to allow liquor shops to remain open after July 31 will be issued after the approval of the LG.

According to media reports, the Delhi government has decided to bring back the old excise system and run liquor shops through its agencies.

The excise policy of the government 2021-22 was not able to achieve the desired objectives of getting more revenue.

Government liquor stores will open for six months from September 1 and till then private shops will continue to operate.
