IND Vs AUS 1st Test: Mohammed Shami Overtakes King Kohli to Achieve This Feat in Red Ball Format

IND Vs AUS 1st Test: The number one ranked team, Australia has gone down in the first Test match at Nagpur’s VCA Stadium in Jamtha.

The Aussies gave a flop show in the opening Test match. They scored only 177 runs and 91 runs in the two innings in which they batted. With the ball as well, they lacked that form which they showed in Australia.

India has piled up 400 runs in their 1st innings of the 1st Test match and they batted just once. Rohit Sharma scored 120 runs and smashed his first Test century as the skipper of the men in the blue side.

Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel also had vital contributions and that came when the team needed it the most. Jaddu had a fantastic return to the international arena.

He picked up a five-wicket haul and also scored 70 runs while Axar was the last man to be dismissed for well-made 84 runs.

The home side won the 1st Test match by an inning and 132 runs. The  Aussie didn’t get anywhere near India’s lead and they were bundled out on the score of just 91 runs.

The spinners of Team India did the trick. Ashwin picked up 5 wickets in the 2nd innings with two wickets each to Jaddu and Shami.

Axar Patel picked up one wicket to his name. Todd Murphy bagged a seven-wicket haul on his Test debut and that was the only highlighted point from the Australian point of view.

Team India also had vital partnerships right from the word go. The openers, Rohit and Rahul added 76 runs for the first wicket.

The partnerships were the key for India in this inning. Rohit later shared two vital stands with Ashwin and Jadeja.

Then to take the innings forward, Axar and Jaddu added some vital runs and India got more than 200 runs lead because of the partnership between Patel and Shami.

Mohammed Shami is a fast bowler and generally bats lower down the order. He can't be called a pure tail-end batsman because Shami has scored two half-centuries and both of them have come in England, which is not an easy thing to do.

In today’s match, the fast bowler Shami has gone past the record of the King of International Cricket, Virat Kohli.

India’s middle order didn’t contribute after the wicket of Ravichandran Ashwin, who batted up the order in the first innings.

Pujara, Kohli and the two debutants, Suryakumar Yadav and KS Bharat fell cheaply and quickly even before India got closer to the Australian total.

The fast bowler, Mohammed Shami was seen in his full flow in the partnership with Axar Patel and that was the much-needed partnership from India’s point of view because they needed to stretch the lead over 200 runs.

Shami had hit three sixes and two boundaries in that knock of 37 runs, which had built more pressure on the Aussies.

While hitting those sixes, Mohammed Shami also went past Virat Kohli in terms of hitting sixes.

Virat Kohli

Shami has smashed 25 sixes in his career in the red ball format and the former skipper of the Indian team, Virat Kohli has just 24 sixes to his name and that too despite being a premiere batsman for the men in blue side in the red ball format.

Kohli’s poor form in the red ball format will be a worry for Team India in this ongoing four-match Test series against the Aussies.
