While the Supreme Court of India is already busy with the ongoing case of the Gyanvapi Complex, another issue has been standing on the waiting list in front of it. Qutub Minar, the UNESCO-protected World Heritage Site is said to be built by Raja Vikramaditya in the 5th Century and was popularly known as Vishnu Stambh and not Qutub Minar.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Tuesday, submitted its reply on the ongoing Qutub Minar case to Saket Court. In it s reply ASI opposed the plea of reviving the temple at the location.

ASI in its reply said, the Qutub Minar has been a protected monument since 1914 and thus its structure cannot be changed now. "The revival of worship cannot be allowed at a monument where such a practice was not prevalent at the time of it being granted the "protected" status"

How the matter came into light?

The matter came into news after one of the ex-regional director of ASI Dharamveer Sharma made his remark over the history of the Minar. Dharmveer claimed that the Qutub Minar was actually builty by Raja Vikramaditya and not by Qutb al-Din Aibak, and the purpose for doing so was to study the direction of the sun. Since then many people have been arguing to change the name of the monument from Qutub Minar to Vishnu Stambh.
