SN Patel Appointed as CVC: Suresh N. Patel took oath as the Central Vigilance Commissioner on Wednesday. This oath was administered to SN Patel by President Droupadi Murmu.

This information was given in a release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan. Before this Patel was working as Executive CVC. The tenure of CVC is 4 years or till the age of 65 years.

What is Central Vigilance Commission?

The Central Vigilance Commission is a body with constitutional status. It is an autonomous body, that supervises all the vigilance activities under the Central Government.

It advises various departments in the Central Government Organizations to plan, implement, review and improve their vigilance functions.

The Central Vigilance Commission Bill was passed in the year 2003 by both the houses of Parliament.

The Commission is headed by a Central Vigilance Commissioner who is the Chairman.

Apart from this, there are two other Vigilance Commissioners. They are appointed by the President, who is made on the recommendation of a committee headed by the Prime Minister.

The Home Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are members of this committee.

CVC has the power to monitor the investigation of CBI officers

When there is any investigation of corruption in any department or institution of the Central Government, then this institution has the work of monitoring it.

But if the institutuion wants to investigate any corruption case, then the permission of the central government has to be taken.

Similarly, if there is any allegation of corruption on the officers working in the centre, then the concerned department has to take the opinion of the CVC before taking action or chargesheet.

The CVC also has the power to monitor the investigation of CBI officers.
