Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has ordered the withdrawal of cases registered by RPF against members of farmer organizations during protests on railway tracks. Punjab Information and Public Relations Department gave this information.
The United Kisan Morcha's Bharat Bandh against agricultural laws had the most impact in Punjab. Traffic on almost all roads, including the national highway, came to a standstill for the entire ten hours. More than 40 trains of the Firozpur division were affected. The public had to face a lot of trouble due to the disruption of road and rail traffic.
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had called an emergency meeting of his cabinet on Monday in response to the United Kisan Morcha's call for a Bharat Bandh against the three agricultural laws. In this meeting, solidarity was expressed towards the farmers and their demands by passing the resolution. Channi said that this law is a threat to the livelihood of farmers and their future generations.
In another decision, the Channi government ordered relaxation of the annual income limit of Rs 32,790 under the Aashirwad scheme in respect of girl children who have lost their parents or both during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Captain Amarinder government of Punjab, fulfilling yet another election promise, in April approved to increase the financial assistance amount under the Aashirwad Yojana from Rs 21,000 to Rs 51,000 per beneficiary. The cabinet had also instructed to settle the arrears under this scheme. Under this scheme, the payment till December 2020 has already been made. This latest extension under the scheme came into effect on July 1, 2021. This was the second expansion in the amount of the scheme by the Captain Government. Immediately after assuming power in 2017, the assistance amount was increased from Rs 15000 to Rs 21000 and the Shagun scheme was renamed as Aashirwad Yojana.
