Unheard Things About Bapu: Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on the evening of January 30, 1948, thus making the day one of the saddest days in history.

That day also Bapu was going for evening prayer as usual. At the same time, Godse shot him from very close range and the saint of Sabarmati left the world saying 'Hey Ram'.

The name of Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi, who was famous for his thoughts and principles during his lifetime, is taken with respect all over the world. But Bapu was put to death in his own country.

Nathuram Godse fired three bullets into Gandhiji's chest. Mahatma Gandhi died shortly after being shot.

The surprising thing was that after being shot, people started picking up the soil from the place where Gandhiji was fallen. People started lifting the soil of that place to such an extent that a pit was formed there.

It was an assassination that is one of the most important events in human history. Nathuram Godse was arrested and later sentenced to death.

Total of 8 accused were convicted in Mahatma Gandhi assassination case

A total of eight accused were convicted in the Mahatma Gandhi assassination case. Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were sentenced to death in this murder case.

But Gopal Godse, Vishnu Karkare, Madanlal Pahwa, Dattatraya Parchure, Digambar Badge and Shankar Kistaiya got life imprisonment.

But Savarkar was acquitted for lack of evidence. When this decision of the Special Court was challenged in the Punjab High Court, on June 21, 1949, the High Court also released Shankar Kistaiya and Dattatreya Parchure.

Nathuram Godse and Narayan Apte were hanged on 15 November 1949 in the Central Jail of Ambala. This was the first hanging of independent India.

  • This attack on Mahatma Gandhi on the evening of January 30, 1948, was not the first time, but even before this many fatal attacks had taken place on Bapu. Before the assassination, five unsuccessful assassination attempts had been made on Gandhiji. On June 25, 1934, some people bombed a car in Pune mistaking it for Bapu's car.

  • In July 1944, anti-Gandhi slogans were raised by the protesters in Panchgani. After which Nathuram, the leader of the group, was called for talks, which was rejected. Later, Godse ran towards Bapu with a dagger, but he was stopped earlier.

  • In September 1944, again Godse gathered a crowd in Bapu's ashram and wanted to reach Gandhiji with a dagger under its guise. But he was again stopped.

  • After this, even in June 1946, when Gandhiji was going to Pune by train, someone put stones on the tracks of the train and the train met with an accident. Although Bapu came out safely in this accident.

  • On 20 January 1948, Madanlal conspired to assassinate Bapu at Birla Bhavan but he was already recognized and the plan failed.
